ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞ School of Medicine Hosts 10th Annual Community Engagement Day on October 5
Free community event features health screenings, food trucks, vendors, and entertainment.
ATLANTA – SEPTEMBER 26, 2024 – ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞ School of Medicine (MSM) will host its 10th annual Community Engagement Day on Saturday, October 5 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Antioch Urban Ministries, Inc., located at 590 North Avenue NW, Atlanta, GA, 30318. This year’s theme is “A New Day for Health, Equity and Justice." The event is free and open to the public. Attendees can register in advance by .
"Community Engagement Day highlights ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞ School of Medicine's people and partnerships in service, research, patient care and education that advance health equity and justice," said Tabia Akintobi, PhD, MPH, MSM Chair of Community Health and Preventive Medicine and Associate Dean of Community Engagement. "Our mission requires us to work towards optimal health care and collaborate to address the contexts and conditions – the social determinants – that make optimal health easier or harder to achieve. These include but are not limited to workforce development, social connectedness, affordable housing, policies, feeling safe in your community and managing stress."
More than 120 vendors have registered to participate in this year's Community Engagement Day. Additionally, the student-run MSM Health Equity for All Lives (H.E.A.L.) Clinic will administer free flu vaccines as well as screenings for high blood pressure, blood glucose and cholesterol.
The celebration will also include giveaways and fun activities for all ages. Food trucks from Linkz Express, Uptown Food Truck, Thats Fatz Wingz, Taqueria El Mariachi, Atlanta Ice Cream Truck, Powdered Swirl Funnel Cakes and Queen Churro will provide free food on a first-come, first-served basis. The event will feature appearances by V-103 host Greg Street and V103/WAOK host Maria Boynton. Entertainment includes music by Atlanta hip-hop legend, V103’s DJ Jelly and a performance by the Morris Brown Concert Choir.
